I finally saw "Attack of the Clones" tonight. Sorry folks, this movie was pathetic. The androids showed more emotion than the "lovers" and Anakin Skywalker was a spoiled petulant brat. To believe that he eventually becomes Darth Vader is absurd. When he describes how he killed the women and children along with the men, instead of being shocked, I laughed. I was waiting for him to stamp his little feet, throw himself on the floor and start kicking.

If Alec Guiness were alive today, Ian McGregor's portrayal of Obi Wan would kill him. And then, to top it off, didn't anybody see "Galaxy Quest"? The scene with the automated assembly line was right out of it, and even Sigourney Weaver thought it was bad writing and her character wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.

Why didn't the death star just blow up the planet that the rebel base was orbiting (rebel base was a moon orbiting a planet). Pretty big plot hole.

I'm gonna guess the DS super-mega-mondo-laser-death ray took a while to reload and thus they had to use it on the actual moon? Other than that, I have no explanation.

I haven't seen AOTC yet (won't open in Venezuela till July 3 > ) but I can't believe the hatred some people have for it. I've seen mostly positive reviews of it, with some people saying it's as good as ESB, but the few who disliked it didn't just dislike it, they HATED it. I wonder if it would be as hated if it'd come from another creator and not Lucas.

SF writer David Brin has a web page deveoted to critiquing Star Wars.

He even mentions the the ROTJ issue that Frogboy raised, namely that the Luke/Vader/Emperor subplot had no real bearing on the overall Death Start plot. What's interesting is that Brin says this is a GOOD thing (you'll have to read his thoughts on this to understand were he's coming from on this).

It's also worth it for the 'mexican-jumping-bean' Yoda having a sword fight with a grown-up...

Oh, well...I just got myself a copy of Mad Max on DVD [from Amazon]...and it's got the 'proper' dialogue, the Aussie one, not the Yankee dubbing...[I should be able to follow the Strine......but I'll have to listen to the bubbed version for a giggle]...and to think it had a AUS $300,000 budget....back then that would be about USD $200,000.
Still lots of action....AND no BSODs....

Jafo sits down to watch a 'real' movie...

Haha.....looking at the movie with the 'explanatory' notes....'Seppo' is 'supposedly Aussie slang for an American. No, it's 'septic'....rhyming slang....'septic tank' - 'yank'....

Drongo, sheila, cobber....the odd thing is the terms aren't used in the movie anyway.....and 'scrubber' isn't exactly a 'prostitute', it's more 'the town bike'....no money need be involved...

So er, how can you tell if you have the dubbed version or the Ozzie one? I've seen it a couple of times, but noted nothing special (thanks to subtitles).

Crae...the Yanks generally found the Aussie accents a little too 'broad', so a more 'Mid-Atlantic' accent was used....they even dubbed Mel's voice....the only one not dubbed was the singer in the 'night club'...
